Activities
Each day of Mountain Day Camp has a consistent structure and routine, but no day is typical. Two-week sessions allow Cabin Groups to experience activities that build on each other and help guide campers through a developmental process.
Each Cabin Group chooses from a Menu of choices for the next day's activities. The Menu is intentionally designed to offer activities that promote group development and individual camper growth consistent with our philosophy and developmental goals . About our pricing: Mountain Day Camp offers one of the premium camp experiences in Boulder County. To cover the costs of maintaining quality programs and staff, we have had to raise our prices over our first three summers. Consider that the your camp fees cover the following:
- Transportation to & from camp and our activity sites
- Great, mature and highly trained staff at a ratio of 7 campers to 1 cabin counselor
- 8 hour camp days
Camperships
We have a Campership Fund (Scholarship Fund) so that every family that wants to send their children to camp may do so. Camperships are awarded in almost any amount from $50 - $500 to many families. Contact us if you would like to discuss this program; last summer, almost 10% of our campers received some form of financial assistance.
Camperships are available based on completion of a scholarship application. Application deadline is 30 days prior to the start of the session. A fundraising event will be held in Spring 2008; contact us if you would like to donate to the fund or volunteer your time.
Locations
Here are the primary locations we use in the summer:
-
Eldorado Canyon State Park: Just a few minutes south of town, the park is easy to access. Our activities take place outside in designated areas and along the beautiful river that defines the canyon. We also utilize the Crescent Meadow site of ECSP for activities like bug catching and kite flying; its a short drive from the main site.
- Eldorado Springs Pool: The pool offers cool refreshment and history too. Over 100 years old, the Eldorado Springs pool is still going strong. Picnic areas allow for non-pool activities and lunches on pool day. The campers love the giant waterslide and diving board!
- Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks: At times, Eldorado Canyon State Park is unavailable, on those days, we utilize trailheads and trails within Boulder.
- Rainy Day Locations: For our rainy day plan, we have canopies for each Cabin Group that have walls. If the weather drives us away from our outdoor locations, we utilize space at Boulder Emergency Squad meeting space and other meeting rooms throughout Boulder.
Transportation
To get there we will offer a few centralized locations for pick-up and drop-off around Boulder. The park will allow you free access, too, if you are just there to pick-up or drop-off your camper. We endeavor to be flexible with your needs as a parent for changes in your camper's scheduled transportation. We'll do what we can to accommodate you!
Transportation takes place in program vehicles where we have staff ready to start the camp day with campers before they even arrive to our location! Because of the close proximity of our site at Eldorado Canyon, the time campers spend in the vehicles is minimized.
Anticipated transportation sites for Summer 2008 are:
1. Washington Elementary (13th & Cedar)
2. The Living School (19th & Arapahoe)
3. Marshall Park & Ride (Hwy 93 & Hwy 170)
What to Bring
- A full water bottle
- A hat
- Sunscreen
- Sturdy athletic or hiking shoes (sorry, no Crocks or Keens)
- Rain jacket and pants
- Sweatshirt or fleece
- A sack lunch
- A positive and fun attitude!
