Junior Leaders Program
The Junior Leaders Program involves leadership training during Session 1 at Eldorado Canyon followed by the opportunity to take a leadership role alongside counselors with our 4.5 to 6 year-old MDC Junior campers for the rest of the summer. (Learn about our Introduction to Backpacking Program for 11 to 14 year-olds).
This leadership program bridges the gap between being a camper and a young adult. Junior Leaders share their love of camp with 4.5 to 6 year olds and help them develop an appreciation of nature.
The training will give them new skills, such as First Aid and CPR, that will help them in working with children and babysitting. They’ll also have time to be campers and have fun in Eldorado Canyon during thir Training Session.
The Experience Sessions with Mountain Day Camp Junior campers will give them plenty of practice with lots of supervision and evaluation.
There is a 7 camper limit to this program.
Program Highlights
Junior Leaders participate in the regular Eldorado Canyon Program and have daily additional training, practice and review of their Junior Leader responsibilities with the Junior Program.
Transportation
Training Session
Campers are picked up at one of three locations throughout Boulder and are transported on the camp bus to Eldorado Canyon.
Leadership Sessions:
Most campers are dropped off at the Junior Program site. There is a before-camp option in which campers can be picked up on the EC bus from North Boulder to Base Camp.
Camp has its own large and fun school . Drivers have the appropriate Commercial Drivers License and driving experience. Drivers are carefully selected for their ability to manage a bus full of campers and their driving records. There will almost always be additional counselors on the bus to supervise, lead songs, and check in with each camper.
